About Joshua Lilly

Joshua Lilly, born and raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Every since he was a child, Lilly never put down the pencils and markers. Often challenged by his grandfather to recreate family photos off the fridge, Lilly grew to enjoy the perfectionism of realism. Capturing the smallest of details in ever drawing. In high school, Lilly attended ‘Studio Art’ classes where he continued his focus on recreating photos - now more focus on his passions, such as lacrosse related drawings where he would recreate close up photos of lacrosse sticks. Winning several awards at district and regional levels.

Lilly went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree at the Bradley University in Criminology. At this point in his life he was far removed from his creative passions. Not too sure if creating a mural for his fraternity that consisted of a duck shot gunning a beer counts.

It wasn’t until post-graduate life that Lilly returned to his craft. Out of frustration, and lack of inspiration, he found a new style he enjoyed. Leaning into creating with the flow. Which led to more abstract and surrealistic paintings and drawings.

After many unhappy years in corporate America, with only the occasional painting being produce, Lilly decided to follow his gut and accept he was meant to create. Leaving the 9-5 grind to create work that depicts his perspectives on the human condition.

Today. Lilly gathers inspiration from his artistic idols such as Van Gogh & Dali; but gathers many themes music produced by Mac Miller.
